Biography

Dr. Smoczer joined the 黑料在线 in 2016 and teaches topics related to biochemistry, genetics and nutrition in the Biomedical Science courses to first-year dental and optometry students. 

She holds a medical degree and M.Sc. in Molecular Biology from Romania. Her Ph.D. from University of Windsor focused on the gene regulatory networks involved in the Xenopus somitogenesis and eye development. She conducted postdoctoral research at Wayne State University in the areas of cardiac biochemistry and DNA damage during aging.

In addition to her didactic and research responsibilities, Dr. Smoczer is a member of the University IRB committee and is actively involved in various national organizations.

    1. Cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, and influence on stem cell differentiation of various dental materials.
    2. Changes in senescence biomarkers in aging periodontal ligament fibroblasts in response to treatment with exogenous antioxidants.
    3. Cytotoxicity and oxidative stress in fibroblasts exposed to chemically- and mechanically treated orthodontic archwires.
    4. Markers of oxidative stress in the oral cavity of smokers of various smoking products.
    5. Comparison of the knowledge of the impact of diet on oral health in dental students and dietetics students.
